The Short Version
Who's Up Next? is designed with privacy at its core. All data stays on your device. We don't collect, transmit, or store any of your information on external servers. There are no accounts, no cloud sync, and no analytics.
Data That Stays on Your Device
The following data is created and stored locally on your iPhone only:
- Friend profiles — names and photos you add for face recognition
- Face data — mathematical representations of faces used for on-device recognition, stored alongside each friend's profile
- Groups — the groups you create or that are auto-generated from round participants
- Round history — records of who bought, who was present, and when
- App preferences — your settings and last-used group
Face Recognition
Face detection and recognition happen entirely on your device using Apple's Vision framework and an on-device machine learning model. No face images or face data are ever transmitted off your phone. The face data stored locally consists of numerical embeddings (arrays of numbers) that cannot be reverse-engineered back into photos.
Camera Access
The app requests camera access to detect and recognise faces in real-time. Camera frames are processed on-device and are never recorded, stored, or transmitted. You can revoke camera access at any time in iOS Settings.
Contacts Access
Optionally, the app can access your contacts to make it easier to add friends by importing names and photos. Contact data is only read when you explicitly choose to link a friend — it is never uploaded or shared. You can revoke contacts access at any time in iOS Settings.
No Tracking
Who's Up Next? does not include any analytics, advertising, or tracking frameworks. We do not collect usage data, crash reports, device identifiers, or any other telemetry.
No Third-Party Services
The app does not communicate with any external servers or third-party services. There are no API calls, no cloud storage, and no network requests of any kind during normal operation.
Data Deletion
Since all data is stored locally on your device, deleting the app removes all associated data. You can also delete individual friends, groups, and round history from within the app.
Children's Privacy
Who's Up Next? does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children. Since no data leaves your device, there is no personal information for us to collect.
Changes to This Policy
If we update this privacy policy, we will post the changes on this page with an updated revision date. Since the app collects no data, changes would only occur if we add new features that affect privacy.
